Welcome, my name is Karen, I'm a librarian and I love reading, history and art. This is my personal journal, I've recently decided to keep a a kind of daily diary about my life (I really wish I had journaled during the pandemic, mind you the only interesting thing that happened for me during lockdown was the neighbour getting a new bath tub!).
I'm also planning to use this as a reading journal, I'm hoping that my writing skills will improve as I've taken up PostCrossing and letter writing for the From Me to You project.

Got another call from Careline, Bel our next door neighbour is having issues breathing we managed to get in the house and call an ambulance for her, the parents are in there now, I’m ill myself so I’ve to come back and try to get some sleep, I’m meant to be working tomorrow but I still feel unwell, sweaty and a bit of a high temperature (Bell has COPD, I can’t risk infecting her) I think it’s time for a COVID test, (pleeease don’t let it be COVID)

I've always had problems getting a good nights sleep, since COVID and lockdown I've suffered from tinnitus (which seems have been getting worse these past few years), recently I've had zero amount of sleep my tinnitus is loud and proud, I've even been getting headaches in time with my tinnitus. Last week in desperation I tried out Nytol and it has helped me getting a good couple of hours of rest, on the box it says go see your doctor because you might be having a long term medical issue.
How about insomnia, I've noticed that the Nytol stops me from tossing and turning during the night, and legs don't seem to be sore (long story I had a DVT about 15 years ago and my legs get sore/tender during the night so I have to move to get comfortable).
So I'm contacting the doctor tomorrow and ask for more help with my sleep issues (I actually don't remember the last time I had a good nights sleep) and I will contact Boots get another hearing teast and try using a hearing aid, to see if it helps with the tinnitus.

I managed to get the Evri parcel to its owner, I ended up using my subscription to Ancestry.co.uk to access the UK electoral information to get the correct door number, he was very grateful I’m so pleased it’s been worrying me for weeks, trying to contact Evri customer service was a bust, I tried the web chat, didn’t understand, I called left a message as requested, no one got back to me, called again left a message and called each morning for a week until, this parcel was delivered 10 days ago and I can’t call again ( you gave me someone else’s parcel, they actually put a label over the original label!)
I even sent letter last week asking for help, a return label or any other information they could give me. I’m going to write again tomorrow and ask to be reimbursed for the money I spent on the electoral info, I most probably won’t get a reply but it will make me feel better to complain.
I finished paying for my trip to Japan and even have a taxi booked to take me to the airport…. Roll on March

I had a really nice week away from work:
Last Tuesday a visit to Tate Britain to see the Now You See Us: Women Artists in Britain 1520-1920, wonderful exhibition though we originally thought the exhibition was at the Tate Modern so it was a rush to get there for our timed entry.
Last Thursday at trip to St. Catherine Docks for a bit of photography a look around the Tower of London, managed to miss the rain on the way back.
And Friday, shopping at Southend-on-Sea, what gorgeous whether so sunny, so bright!
Back to work Monday ::Sobs::

WOW a fantastic book! it's told in 3 time periods linked by water, the River Thames and the River Tigris, a beautifully written book on a very harrowing subject, I really didn't expect that plot twist!
Highly recommended.
I am now in a book slump, I'm very stressed up about work, and everyone is on leave...

I know incredible I wouldn't thought it's possible to bruise an elbow but it is (I knock my elbow on a metal catch and ouch it hurts!)
It's been a strange few days, I visited my aunt last Friday, my lovely cousin was there and as per usual when you're with family you bring up the past, complain about other family members, those that have died and then wills (yeah I managed to upset both my mum and aunt, didn't mean to.)
I swear my cousin is my cosmic twin, we're only 6 months apart in age, she mentioned she was putting me in my will, and I'm pretty much adding her and her sister to mine, we're also suffering from the same peri-menopausal symptoms (really itchy arms it's driving me nuts!).
It's wonderful catching up with her and auntie :)
It ended up being quite an emotionally draining weekend.
But today is a bank holiday, I broke out a puzzle and put Wynnona Earp, so nice to have a long weekend, only another couple of weeks before I get some annual leave, I think I might be suffering from a bit of burnout.

Woah my brain is in overdrive now I've booked my trip to Japan... I'm looking into SIM cards, what the weather will be like, what clothes to wear, do I need a new suitcase (I don't want anything to big) and because it's Japan I really thinking buying a camera, maybe upgrade the phone. Come to think of it how much cash will I need for 12 days, what denominations will best... phew thank heavens I have over 6 months to sort this.
I also plan to finally write a Will, not that I think anything bad will happen to me abroad, I should have written one ages ago, but yeah looks like I've lit a fire under my ass!

Well I can't believe I've finally booked my dream trip to Japan (I'm already nervous, I have planes and travelling) but WOW yeah I wanted to do something special for my birthday next year. I'm going in March 2025, Cherry Blossom season, Cherry Blossoms are my favourite trees...
Lots to do, travel insurance, travel money, maybe organise a hotel the night before travelling...
